About the Bernina Line

Background to Rivet Games Bernina add-on for Train Simulator 2020.

The Bernina Line: Poschiavo to Tirano is based on the route as it was around 2016 in order to be consistent with the existing Thomson Interactive Bernina Pass route.

We’ve collected links to some of our favourite reference material at the bottom of this page.

For a brief history of the railway see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernina_railway

The main traction used on this route is the ABe 8/12 Allegra. Some details and history of this vehicle are here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhaetian_Railway_ABe_8/12

The simulation was created with the support of Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and we would like to thank them for their long-standing help and feedback.

There are many beautiful rail routes in Switzerland, and in the course of our research trips we’ve become friends with the lovely people at Railtour who put together an excellent selection of Swiss rail holidays for anyone wanting to experience the journeys for themselves:

Creating the Bernina simulation
As you will appreciate when you use the simulator, a huge amount of work across a range of disciplines is required to make a product like this. Rivet have created a number of videos exploring some of the aspects of the development, watch them on YouTube via this playlist.

While researching and building this route, we looked at hundreds of different sources of reference material, both in Switzerland on survey trips, and online from the comfort of the office. Here’s a selection of links to the items we liked the most that we think fans of the Bernina Line may appreciate too:
