La tratta del Lago di Costanza: Sciaffusa-Kreuzlingen è parte della “Seelinie” (“Linea del lago”) che va da Sciaffusa a Rorschach, che costituisce la parte elvetica del cerchio di ferrovie che cinge il Bodensee (Lago di Costanza), ed è situata tra i cantoni Sciaffusa e Turgovia.

Il percorso così come è oggi è stato costruito in 4 segmenti tra il 1869 ed il 1895. Inizialmente, c’erano tre compagnie ferroviarie svizzere che avevano costruito tratte in questa zona. La NOB (Ferrovia della svizzera nordorientale) a poco a poco prese a carico le parti separate e le unì, prima della nazionalizzazione delle ferrovie del 1902 che fece prendere in mano la gestione della ferrovia alle FFS, che ne iniziarono l’elettrificazione nel 1928, ma a causa del suo stato di ramo ferroviario il completamento di questo processo si ebbe solo nel 1969.

Negli anni ’90, le FFS iniziarono lentamente lo smantellamento della tratta, ma nel 1996 la MThB (Mittel-Thurgau-Bahn o Ferrovia della Turgovia Centrale) rilevò il percorso ed iniziò a rimodernare sia la tratta stessa che i treni. Poi, nel 2002, la sussidiaria di FFS “Thurbo” prese a carico la tratta oltre a gran parte del materiale rotabile.

This route features the stunning part from Kreuzlingen to Schaffhausen.

The route as it is today was built in 4 segments from 1869 to 1895. Initially there were 3 Swiss train companies, who had built routes in this area. One after another, the NOB (Swiss Northeastern Railway) took over the separate parts and united them. In 1902, when Switzerland started nationalising their railway companies, SBB took over the route. They started electrifying the route in 1928, but because of its status as a branch line, it took until 1969 to complete electrification.

In the 1990s, the SBB slowly started decommissioning the route, but in 1996 the MThB (Mittel-Thurgau-Bahn or Central Thurgau Railway) took over the route, and started modernising both the tracks and the trains. Then in 2002, the SBB subsidiary “Thurbo” took over the route as well as most of the rolling stock.

Today, the route is operated with modern multiple units, running every half an hour in both directions. Between Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein additional commuter services also run.

Die heutige Strecke wurde von 1869 bis 1895 in vier Abschnitten gebaut. Anfangs gab es 3 Schweizer Eisenbahnunternehmen, die Strecken in diesem Gebiet bauten.
